Every manager wants it, to lead their team to consistent success. To work in harmony with their team and to trust that the work that needs to be done will actually be done when its supposed to be done. So what is the secret sauce to getting this to happen? This is the problem many managers come to me and express as being on their wish list. Who doesn’t want their organization to run smoothly and get the projects done that are going to make them successful? It’s a common theme that seems too complicated to address, but is it really? I find that when ever a client comes to me with a wish like that the first thing I do is ask, “When was the last time you planned an offsite team building retreat?” To which I hear, “Well, I don’t quite remember, but it’s been awhile I think.” Of course the sarcastic side of me wants to retort back, “So how often do you maintain your vehicle so it gets you where you want to go?” But I understand, with deadlines around every corner and more pressure to accomplish more with less resources, which includes people to accomplish these projects, I understand the pressure many managers have to deal with daily. So building successful teams may be important, but you learn to expect that to be already done for you, so you don’t have to do this yourself. Team building retreats take the back seat until work processes begin to break down, communication is ineffective and yes you got it, stuff is not being done on schedule . Now it’s not an option, its a necessity to do something about it now! That is why the classic metaphor of keeping the saw sharpened helps you to fell more trees and produces safer results should be utilized and reminded so we can all be proactive in keeping our teams “sharp” and ready to take on all challenges. Now is the time to plan your next team building exercise or leadership development retreat and make it a “must” on your schedule, not just to avoid breakdowns in your organization, but to stay sharp and ready for any challenging projects looming around the corner. Our cooking team building exercises can be done anywhere, your office, your hotel conference, and our process includes something that everyone loves, food! So instant rapport and buy-in from your team with an objective in mind that benefits everyone especially you and your organizations bottom-line. And when I say team building, I don’t mean the infamous “Booze-cruise”, ballgame day or lame scavenger hunts, I don’t mean team activity, I mean actually experiential team building training that has a real objective that inspires and impacts your work team to the next level of achievement. By creating a impactful and memorable experience that uses the efforts of your full team to produce a shared positive outcome, you now have a collective experience that your team can look back on to provide them with the understanding and confidence that as a team, they can accomplish anything! Learn more. So don’t wait until your saw is dull and difficult to fell trees. Take the short amount of time to put an edge on that saw and treat it with the respect that a valued tool should be given!

I wouldn't say I like this sort of analogy at all because I don't think that team building is this easy at all. It can get a lot more complicated once you dive right into it.
